Purpose/Course Description: This trimester course is designed to give the serious art student an in depth study of advanced art techniques in their chosen area of study. This course will help the art student prepare their art portfolio for college entrance. The course can be taken up to four times with the approval of the art department chairperson. During the first six weeks, students will work on similar assignments, while assignments for the second six weeks will be geared toward a group public art project or independent study. Students need to have taken at least three to four other art classes successfully, before taking this class.
Topics, Key Concepts, and Units of Study: Students will learn about traditional and modern artists, to include all of the “isms” in art for the first six weeks. After researching these artists, they will propose projects ideas, a process statement, sketches of design plans, and gathered images. Students will present their series of work to the class. A digital portfolio of their work and an artist statement will be required. Both individual and public art will be options. Individual art will include at least 6 works of art. Public art would be to execute a group project of art for the school that would be donated and become part of a permanent exhibit at the school.
